K. Jane Williams

Acting Administrator

K. Jane Williams was sworn in as Deputy Administrator of FTA on August 21, 2017. As the second-highest ranking official within the agency, she helps lead an organization with over 500 employees that provides more than $12 billion annually to support and expand public transit in the U.S.

Prior to joining the FTA, Williams was the Director of the Washington Area Transit Office in the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). In that role, she managed the State of Maryland’s significant investment in the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and worked with leadership to provide a safe, reliable, and fiscally responsible Metro system. In addition, Williams worked with locally operated transit services to coordinate grant agreements and state aid in two of Maryland’s most populous counties. With her experience at MDOT and WMATA, Williams brings to FTA hands-on experience with two of FTA’s largest grantees that together serve over a million passengers each day.

Williams previously served in the Executive Branch at the Department of Energy and Department of Labor under President Reagan and the Department of the Interior under President George H.W. Bush. She also served as a Senior Legislative Advisor in the office of U.S. House member Andy Harris.

Williams holds a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park. She currently resides in Annapolis, Maryland with her two daughters.
